HEARTS OF SPACE got started in 1973 as local late night music show on KPFA-FM in Berkeley, CA. In 1983 we went national via the NPR satellite system. The show has been heard on over 300 public radio stations, and is currently running on over 200 NPR affiliates and XM Satellite Radio.
The program has defined its own niche — a mix of ambient, electronic, world, new age, classical and experimental music. Our programs support any kind of concentrated mental activity, programming, creative work, virtual travel, all kinds of contemplative practices, or just relaxing.
Host STEPHEN HILL keeps the commentary to less than five minutes total at the beginning and end of the hour so you can enjoy the music as it should be — uninterrupted. Online you can turn the voiceovers off completely if you like.
We have a long term commitment to providing a quality service. We offer a highly curated selection that goes beyond conventional categories and takes a broad view of ambient, space and contemplative music.
Our online archive offers over a thousand hours of music from all over the world, including every show we've done since 1983 and a selection of classic albums. We select, edit, and present the best we find, and stream worldwide using the latest Flash Media technology.
